In astrology, the term "houses" refers to the twelve sectors of the sky that are divided by the ecliptic, the path that the Sun appears to take through the sky over the course of a year. These twelve houses are numbered from the eastern horizon, with the first house starting at the point of the horizon directly opposite the Sun.
Each of the twelve houses represents a different area of life, and the position and condition of the planets in the houses can indicate the potential influences and experiences that a person may have in that area. For example, the first house represents the self, the second house represents material possessions and financial matters, and the third house represents communication and immediate surroundings. In a natal chart, the houses are calculated based on the date, time, and place of birth, and they are used to provide insight into a person's personality, relationships, career, and life path. The signs that occupy each house can also provide additional information about the qualities and energies associated with that house. The houses are an important concept in astrology, as they provide a framework for understanding the influences and experiences that shape a person's life.
